What is a Podiatry Student Assistant?
A Podiatry Student Assistant is a podiatry student (enrolled in an approved Australian university degree) who works casually in a Healthia clinic under the supervision of qualified podiatrists.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in private practice while supporting patients and learning what day-to-day podiatry work looks like.
What You’ll Do
In this role, your activities will change as you continue in your studies and gain knowledge and proficiency. But you can expect to be involved in:
- assisting podiatrists with patient care
- conducting circulation and foot health assessments
- helping with orthotic fittings, footwear advice and selection
- applying padding, strapping, and dressings
- observing and assisting with minor procedures
- supporting patients to stay active, comfortable, and independent
- other clinic support tasks that will assist in workforce preparation – including but not limited to, understanding billing codes, assisting with reception duties, and sterilising instruments

What You’ll Need
To be eligible, you must:
- Be enrolled (or eligible to enrol) in a recognised Australian Podiatry degree
- Be passionate about helping people improve their mobility and health
- Be committed to working as part of a supportive clinical team
- Be vaccinated for relevant communicable diseases as required by state and federal laws
